just as (A)He chose us in Him (B)before the foundation of the world, that we should (C)be holy and without blame before Him in love, (D)having predestined us to (E)adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, (F)according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, (G)by which He [a]made us accepted in (H)the Beloved.

(I)In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to (J)the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and [b]prudence, (K)having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure (L)which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of (M)the fullness of the times (N)He might gather together in one (O)all things in Christ, [c]both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 (P)In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to (Q)the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

14 For (A)as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For (B)you did not receive the spirit of bondage again (C)to fear, but you received the (D)Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, (E)“Abba,[a] Father.” 16 (F)The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then (G)heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, (H)if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

The Mediator’s Death Necessary

16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For (C)a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.

God Renews His Promise to Israel

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh. For (A)with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand (B)he will drive them out of his land.”

And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am [a]the Lord. (C)I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as (D)God Almighty, but by My name (E)Lord[b] I was not known to them. (F)I have also [c]established My covenant with them, (G)to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their [d]pilgrimage, (H)in which they were [e]strangers. And (I)I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore say to the children of Israel: (J)‘I am the Lord; (K)I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will (L)rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with [f]an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

An Invitation to Abundant Life

55 “Ho! (A)Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
(B)Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
Why do you [a]spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear, and (C)come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;
(D)And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—
The (E)sure mercies of David.

The Glorious Company

18 For you have not come [a]to (A)the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and [b]darkness and tempest, 19 and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it (B)begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. 20 (For they could not endure what was commanded: (C)“And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned [c]or shot with an arrow.” 21 And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, (D)“I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”)

22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the [d]general assembly and church of (E)the firstborn (F)who are registered in heaven, to God (G)the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men (H)made perfect, 24 to Jesus (I)the Mediator of the new covenant, and to (J)the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things (K)than that of Abel.

Hear the Heavenly Voice

25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For (L)if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, (M)“Yet once more I [e]shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the (N)removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we [f]may (O)serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For (P)our God is a consuming fire.
